In collaboration with SARC, we designed and developed the map interface and user experience design, utilizing location-based search using Google Maps API.

The map allows visitors to sort and filter by location and by which population the center treats – pediatric, adult, or both – which are color coded accordingly.

Special locations are designated as a SARC Consortium Member which is visually represented with a white dot in the same color coded pin system.

Approach

Our process extended into outlining the steps that each Center and SARC staff would take during the review and entry process as well as developing the application form and CMS fields based on content and input from SARC scientific leadership and the SARC Research Advisory Council.

The entire design system is seamless from the institutions joining, the SARC team managing and the end user searching.

Modular + action-oriented + approachable

The project started as a large document curated by scientists and doctors featuring 70 soft tissue subtypes, defined and organized within 10 chapters. During thorough review with the SARC team, we realized this would have to become a series of pages breaking down the guide that allowed users to navigate through the information in an efficient and effective way.

Our team redesigned the Patient Resources and What is Sarcoma? page to better highlight the sites new features. From there, we built out the Soft Tissue Sarcoma Reference Guide and it’s 10 chapter pages (chapter 1: Liposarcoma).

Approach

During the initial build out, the project grew to include the new Sarcoma Helpline and Patient Advocacy Directory with it’s own subtype filter.

After building the new system, we knew the pages needed more prominence on the navigation. This allowed our team to collaborate with the SARC team to look deeper into the navigation architecture. Using the site’s G4 analytics, we were able to strategically restructure the site with a larger focus on audience groups.
